At the end of 18th century and the beginning of 19th century clarinet was a fashionable musical instrument for many composers, a new invention, a miracle with fascinating velvety sound that one of the brightest pre-Sibelius composers Bernhard Crusell, Czech-Austrian court composer Franz Krommer and even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who arranged his violin sonatas for clarinet quartet, couldn’t resist its charms.
The music night compiled of lesser known but exciting and very enjoyable compositions in the fancy house of Tartu German Culture Institute is made cozier with explanatory comments by the performers.
